What do I do if the chip isn’t working?
If your terminal can’t read the chip, the customer can swipe their card instead. This is called a fallback transaction. When this happens, the card issuer is liable for the transaction, not you.
Do EMV transactions process differently?
With an EMV card, both the card issuer and the chip on the card must approve or decline the transaction. The card issuer makes a decision and sends a response to the chip, which then makes the final decision. With a magstripe card, the card issuer approves or declines the transaction.
How can I tell if a transaction was EMV or regular credit/debit in my Payments Portal reports?
The Entry Mode field in the Transaction Details indicates whether a transaction was EMV or regular credit/debit.
